Get to know your counsellor

Do you feel like yourself? Currently you may feel as if you are in a place of hopelessness, depression, experiencing feelings of being overwhelmed with few resources to draw upon for help. Collaboratively through counselling and/or art therapy we can explore and rediscover your internal resources, find your inner resilience and strengths; explore answers to your feelings, inner turmoil and questions. Finding ways to explore and resolve your concerns, behaviours and fears relies on building a bridge between what you presently feel and how you would like to feel in the future.

My goal in therapy is to help you discover what is missing that would get you back to feeling fully like yourself? Mark Rego, M.D. writes that its easy to say we are feeling very tired, often feel blue or have no sex drive. Not feeling like yourself is an early warning he states that “something is amiss.” He writes that feeling like yourself is like wearing a comfortable jacket that fits perfectly and you know it as soon as you put it on. Its “similar in that every inch of your internal being feels right and normal.”

When we are ourselves, we do not always have to feel good or happy, and that is okay. Our goal in therapy is get to know ourselves improve and learn what our triggers are and how we can better get to know those parts of self, that are triggered/wounded; and release/unburden the wounds. Many of us have experienced severe traumas and believe we may never feel like ourselves again. Thus, creating a new self- becomes our goal in therapy. A self that has the capacity for curiosity, compassion and relaxation.

Starting counselling can be a scary and difficult step, but when you decide that you want to start this journey and trust in the process, change will happen. I look forward to starting the journey with you.
